Problem:

The AEC Importer Plugin is included with Cinema 4D but is not automatically installed in the plugin directory for Adobe After Effects.

Solution:

Manually copy and paste the "C4DImporter(.aex)" file (if you have a ZIP file, extract it first) into the Adobe After Effects CC Plug-ins Directory.

Steps to Follow:

  1. Locate the After Effects Plugin Directory:

    • Windows: Program Files / Adobe After Effects CC 20xx / Support Files / Plug-ins
    • macOS: Applications / Adobe After Effects CC 20xx / Plug-ins

  2. Locate the C4DImporter File in Cinema 4D:

    Cinema 4D R21 and Newer:

    • Windows: Program Files / MAXON Cinema 4D Rxx or 20xx / Exchange Plugins / aftereffects / Importer / [operating system] / [After Effects package]
    • macOS: Applications / MAXON Cinema 4D Rxx or 20xx / Exchange Plugins / aftereffects / Importer / [operating system] / [After Effects package]

    Cinema 4D R20 and Older:

    • Windows: Program Files / MAXON / Cinema 4D Rxx / Exchange Plugins / aftereffects / Importer / [operating system] / [After Effects package]
    • macOS: Applications / MAXON / Cinema 4D Rxx / Exchange Plugins / aftereffects / Importer / [operating system] / [After Effects package]

  3. Copy the C4DImporter File:
Copy the "C4DImporter(.aex)" file from the Cinema 4D directory to the After Effects Plug-ins directory.

By following these steps, the AEC import for After Effects should work correctly.
