When opening a project with multiple instances of Particular applied that was created in a version prior to 5.0, you may desire the ability to execute the migration command one time instead of having to hunt through your project for each separate instance.

Use the instructions below to mass-migrate all particular instances at once:

  • Download the Particular Migrator.zip script and put it somewhere safe on your machine

  • Open your AE project that requires migration from a previous version of Particular

  • Open up Preferences > Scripting & Expressions and make sure the box is checked for “Allow Scripts to Write Files and Access Network

  • Go to File > Scripts > Run Script File

  • Navigate to and select the Particular Migrate.jsx file you downloaded

On Macs: The first time the script is run on Mac you may need to adjust some permissions. You’ll know this is the case if you see the error “failed to create symlink”. If this happens, follow the steps below:

  • Open a Finder window and navigate to /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/7.0/MediaCore

  • Right-click on the Trapcode folder and select Get Info

  • Twirl open the Sharing & Permissions section

  • Click the padlock icon in the bottom right corner and enter your password (if necessary) to unlock

  • Click the “+” icon in the bottom left corner

  • Highlight your username and click Select

  • In the Privilege column, set your username to Read & Write

  • Click the gear icon at the bottom and select “Apply to enclosed items…

You can re-lock and close the info window. You should now be good to go.

Pro tip: Save the migrated project as a copy and keep the original on hand in the event you ever need to reference it again.
