We've received some reports of users encountering difficulties with adding a Redshift Toon material to their projects. We have found that rebuilding the "dc" and "description.db" folders in the preferences can resolve this issue.

Here is how you can rebuild the dc and description.db folders:

  1. Open Cinema 4D, and select Edit > Preferences from the Cinema 4D menu.
  2. In the Preferences window, click the "Open Preferences Folder" button, located on the lower left.
This action will open a File Explorer window (Windows) or a Finder window (Mac) where your Cinema 4D preferences are stored.
  3. Close Cinema 4D.
  4. Open the preference folder associated with the version of Cinema 4D you are using.
For instance, if you are using Cinema 4D 2024, look for the **Maxon Cinema 4D 2024_******** folder.
  5. Locate and delete the "dc" and "description.db" folders.
  6. Once deleted, restart Cinema 4D to rebuild the dc and description.db folder, and check if the issue has been resolved.

In some outlier cases, we've found that reinstalling Redshift can sometimes resolve the issue if the above-mentioned steps do not work.

You can find the Redshift installer here: https://www.maxon.net/en/downloads
Simply click 'Redshift' to expose the links.

If the issue has been resolved after going through the instructions above, enjoy the new Toon Material!

If you still can't use the Toon Material, please open a support ticket here:

**To prevent confusion, the folders for Team Render, Cineware, and Command Line are Cinema 4D 202*_********_$ where _$ is one of the labels below (note that the Cinema 4D folder has no label):

  1. Cinema 4D: no label
  2. Team Render Client: _c
  3. Team Render Server: _s
  4. Cineware: _w
  5. Command Line _x
