If you see "SSL_do_handshake returned error" after accessing the web interface of the Maxon License Server (MLS), there are six possible solutions to resolve the issue:
-
Solution 1: Configure your proxy settings. If your company uses a proxy for internet connections, Maxon will need to be allowed access inside your network.
The steps to do this varies per proxy configuration, so you'll need to consult with your network administration resources for guidance on how to allow these two domains:
-
Solution 2 (Windows only): Add Maxon domains to Internet Explorer's trusted sites.
- Open the Internet Explorer (not Edge)
- Use the cogwheel symbol in the top right corner and select Internet options (see here for more information)
- Under the Security tab, in the Trusted sites section, add these sites:
-
Solution 3: Reset the MLS to default settings and start from scratch.
- Stop the MLS service
- Head to the folder where the license server is stored
- Windows:
C:\ProgramData\Maxon\ - Mac:
/Library/Application Support/Maxon/
- Windows:
- Delete the License Server folder at this location
- If not done already, download and install the latest MLS installation here
- Configure the newly started MLS service to your needs
-
Solution 4: Add a current certificate to the MLS by Hand
- Stop the MLS service
- Open the License Server folder
- Windows:
C:\Program Files\Maxon License Server\resource\ssl\ - Mac:
/Applications/Maxon License Server/resource/ssl/
- Windows:
- Open the "cacert.pem" file using a text editor
- Access https://id.maxon.net via Firefox
- Click on the lock symbol next to the URL > Connection Secure > More Information
- In the dialogue that appears, under the Security tab, click View Certificate
- In the new browser tab that opens, scroll down to the Miscellaneous section and, next to Download, click PEM (chain) to download it
- In your downloads directory, open the newly-downloaded file in a text editor
- Copy the entirety of the text blocks in the file to the end of your existing cacert.pem file and save it
-
Restart the MLS service
Note: You may need to manually add the Amazon Starfield Services root certificate to the license server before it can load correctly.
-
Solution 5: Remove the installation. This is done by using the uninstaller from the program's installation folder and reinstall from scratch using the latest Installer from our website.
-
Solution 6 (Windows only): Install the Microsoft Edge browser (Windows Server only). Windows Server does not include Microsoft Edge by default, and we've found that in some cases of encountering the handshake error, installing Microsoft Edge can resolve the issue.
Here is a link to download the Microsoft Edge installer: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge
