Common Installation and Update Issues
- Corrupted or incomplete files typically happens over WiFi or poor connections that may have been disrupted at any point during the download. To account for this, consider using a wired connection or a download manager.
- Conflicts with antivirus or firewall settings, which would need to be configured by yourself or your IT administrator using whatever resources firewall or antivirus software have available.
- Insufficient user permissions during installation can occur if you are not logged in as an administrator when running our installers.
- Outdated operating system or hardware incompatibility, which would mean your operating system needs to be updated into a newer version, or switching to a machine with sufficient resources.
Pre-installation Best Practices
- Verify your system meets the minimum requirements for the product you're trying to install.
- Disable antivirus and firewall software prior to installation.
- Log in as an administrator prior to launching an installer instead of using a standard user account.
- Download directly from Maxon instead of any third party service.
Troubleshooting Suggestions
Some of these are recaps of what was covered in best practices, but are mentioned again in the event they weren't done sufficiently enough.
- Reboot your system and attempt the installation or update again. This can often times restart or force stop background services that may have affected the installation process.
- If the installer fails, delete the downloaded file and re-download from maxon.net to avoid partial or corrupted files. Note all of the installers the Maxon App uses are at the bottom of the downloads page, acting as a second method for you to retrieve installers.
- Temporarily deactivate firewall or antivirus security software, then try again, remembering to re-enable it afterward. Some users report more stubborn antivirus software services need to be entirely uninstalled to disable their more strict components.
- Run the installer as an administrator instead of a standard user account. Some Windows users try to right-click installers and select Run as Administrator while being signed in as a standard user, which is not sufficient enough for the installer to place files where they need to go.
- Check Maxon's support hub or community forums for known issues or patches.
