Issue

On certain Windows systems, 3ds Max may crash when opening the Redshift Color Picker or when performing specific UI interactions such as opening the Material Editor.

This behavior has been observed primarily after recent environment or software updates and may affect both legacy and newly created scenes.

According to Autodesk’s official documentation, this issue is related to a specific version of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable runtime installed on the system.

In particular, environments using vcomp140.dll version 14.50.35710.0 may experience instability in 3ds Max when features relying on OpenMP are invoked.

Redshift’s Color Picker utilizes OpenMP, which can trigger this behavior under the affected runtime configuration.

Solution

Updating or repairing the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable to a newer version has been confirmed to resolve the issue.

Please download and install the latest supported version of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (version 14.50.35719 or newer), then restart the system.
