Error: Cinema 4D 2026.3.0 unable to open Cinema 4D 2026.3.1 project files

Cinema 4D (C4D) project files created in 2026.3.1 with the UV tag will not open in C4D 2026.3.0.
 
To open a C4D 2026.3.1 project file in C4D 2026.3.0, the advised workaround is to use C4D 2026.2.0 or older to open the project file, save it, then open it in C4D 2026.3.0.
 
Here's the step-by-step process:
  1. Close Cinema 4D
  3. Open the project file
  4. Save the project file
  5. Close the older version of Cinema 4D
  6. Open the project file in Cinema 4D 2026.3.0
This issue was the result of an optimization put in place in Cinema 4D 2026.3.1 which was not retroactively compatible with version 2026.3.0. If you run into any issues following the guide above, contact Support.
