To improve Asset Browser performance, you can now create a *Database Index. This is especially important for large databases or those located on network drives.

Similar to indexing files and folders on your operating system, indexing your custom database will speed up the load and search times of your Asset Browser.

*Database Indexing is a feature added in Cinema 4D S26. If you are using S24 or R25, you will need to upgrade to S26 or newer.

  • To generate a database Index, after creating a database for the first time (which may take some time depending on the number of assets you've added or network speed if it's on a network drive), click the database filter icon in the upper right of the Asset Browser, right-click on your custom database, and choose "Create Database Index." (example below)

Alternatively, you can create an index by clicking the greyed-out index icon to the right of the database.

    Updating Your Index:
If you happen to update the Database with new assets you should also update the index for more accurate searches. You can do this by simply clicking the database Icon

    Deleting the Index:
If you ever need to remove the index, Ctrl+Left Mouse Click (Windows) or CMD+Left Mouse Click (Mac) will delete the index.

Hovering over the index icon will reveal an info window with the above-mentioned indexing options:
