Why does Cinema 4D S26 and newer crash when I run in Rosetta on Apple Silicon?

Quick answer: Cinema 4D S26 and newer require the AVX instruction set and cannot run under Rosetta 2 emulation on Apple Silicon.

Why this happens

Rosetta 2 can translate most x86_64 instructions, but it does not support newer instruction sets such as AVX, AVX2, or AVX‑512 (it supports up to SSE). Because Cinema 4D S26 and later use AVX, they cannot run in Rosetta emulation on Apple Silicon. These versions must run natively on Apple Silicon or on an Intel-based Mac.

Notes and alternatives

  • If you previously relied on Rosetta for the Substance workflow, Cinema 4D 2023 and newer include native Apple Silicon support.
  • Cinema 4D 2024.2 introduces a Substance node for Node materials. Substances can be added via drag-and-drop in the Material Manager or the Nodes editor.
