Why I am getting errors ''Exception during renderer creation ()'' and ''Failed to create a cache path in default location'' on macOS after installing C4D 2025.1.0 and RS 2025.2.0?

This error is typically caused by either having Rosetta enabled for Cinema 4D or because of file permission issues on Redshift cache folders, in which case disabling Rosetta or deleting the Redshift cache folders resolves it.

Follow the guides below for in-depth instructions.

  • Disable Rosetta for Cinema 4D
    1. Close Cinema 4D
    2. Right-click the Cinema 4D app from a Finder window
    3. Choose Get Info
    4. Uncheck Open using Rosetta
    5. Relaunch Cinema 4D

  • Delete the Redshift Cache folder.
    1. Close Cinema 4D
    2. Open a Finder window
    3. Select Go > Go to Folder from the top menu bar
    4. Type or paste in: ~/library/preferences/Maxon/
    5. Locate and open the Maxon Cinema 4D folder for your Cinema 4D version
      • Example: Maxon Cinema 4D 2024_22E620F3
    6. Within the Maxon Cinema 4D folder, head into the redshift folder
    7. Delete the cache folder
    8. Head back into Go > Go to Folder
    9. Type or paste in: ~/redshift/
    10. Delete the cache folder
    11. Relaunch Cinema 4D

If either of those steps don't resolve the problem, try reinstalling Cinema 4D 2025.1 (which includes Redshift 2025.2):

  1. Uninstall Cinema 4D
  2. Uninstall Redshift
  3. Reinstall Cinema 4D 2025.1 using the Maxon App
