Understanding Device Limits and Account Conflicts

An individual Maxon license can only be used on one machine at a time.

Maxon licenses are tied to the Maxon Account that purchased them. This Maxon Account is then used to sign into the Maxon App, which is a program used to license Maxon products on a given device.

The Maxon app can install software on an unlimited number of machines, and a Maxon Account can sign into an unlimited number of machines, but the software can only be in use on machine.

Device limit errors occur when a Maxon license is in use on more than one machine at a time, or when Maxon Accounts are used inconsistently between individual licenses and Teams licenses.

How do I release a license from a device?

A license can either be removed locally from the device using the Maxon App, or remotely using the web portal.

The web portal can also be used locally on the device you're releasing a license from in the event you're unable to access the Maxon App for whatever reason. 

To release a Maxon license using the Maxon App:

  1. Be signed into the Maxon App using the Maxon Account the license belongs to
  2. Select the Licenses tab on the left-hand side
  3. Click Release to release a license from the device you're using.

To release a Maxon license using the web portal:

  1. Sign into the Maxon Account the license belongs to
  2. Select Licenses
  3. Click Release under the Manage column of the device's row you want to release a license from.

Best Practices for Licensing and Account Management

  • Use one email address for all of your Maxon licenses where possible, including Teams assignments.
  • When switching between individual and Teams licenses, always log out and back in with the correct email before accessing the Maxon App.
  • Use the Transfer option in the Maxon App when moving between machines.
